If your team wraps pallets by hand, the film you give them decides how hard they work, how consistent each pallet is and how much film you buy. Here’s how pre-stretched hand film compares with standard hand film.
Standard hand stretch film relies on the operator to stretch it as they wrap. How far it stretches, and how tight the load ends up, depends on who is wrapping and how hard they pull, so results vary from one operator to the next.
Pre-stretched hand film is stretched at the factory, so it arrives ready to use. A far thinner film holds the load, and your team doesn’t have to pull hard to get it tight.
| Standard hand film | Pre-stretched hand film | |
|---|---|---|
| Who does the stretching | The operator, on every pallet | The factory, before it reaches you |
| Effort | High, especially around the base of the pallet | Low: no hard pulling needed |
| Consistency | Varies from operator to operator | The same stretch on every roll |
| Film thickness | Thicker | Far thinner |
For most hand-wrapping operations, pre-stretched film wins on film per pallet and consistency, because the stretch is built in rather than left to the operator. Less effort also means less strain on your team. The only way to be sure is to measure it on your own pallets.
Our pre-stretched hand film comes on 390mm × 600m rolls, from 4 to 8 microns, with 30% recycled content and extended cores.
If hand wrapping is holding up dispatch, a semi-automatic wrapper running Nanofilm or FiberFilm can cut both the effort and the cost per pallet. Our semi-automatic pallet wrapper buyer’s guide explains what to look for.
